Why assets and locations are set up first
How assets, asset types and locations relate.
Checks are always about something (an asset) somewhere (a location), so these come first.
Locations
A location is a site, building or area. Assets belong to a location so you can filter, report and assign checks by site.
Asset types
An asset type (for example Vehicle or Forklift) defines the custom fields every asset of that type has, such as registration or serial number. Set up the type once and every new asset gets the same fields, keeping data consistent.
Assets
Each asset keeps its own history of checks, incidents and loans, so you can see its full record in one place.
Why it matters
If assets and locations are tidy, the calendar, reports and alerts all become more useful because everything can be filtered by them.
